ABOUT BRO. GERARD QUIAOIT AND SFC-MISAMIS ORIENTAL (COMMENTS RE HIS MEETING IN MUSUAN, BUKIDON ON SEPT. 20, 2009)

(The following comments are meant to put in proper perspective the “meeting”  -  held among Manila-based coordinators for SFC, in the persons of Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan, Bro. Venus Cabaraban, new Provincial Coordinator for SFC in Misamis Oriental, and Bro. Gerard Quaioit whom Bro. Venus Cabaraban replaced  -  in Musuan, Bukidnon, last September 20, 2009.  The source document for these comments is given below.)
--------------------------------------------
  1.  A new 5-man Area Council under Bro. Jun Waga, governs CFC in Misamis Oriental and has already installed Bro. Venus Cabaraban as the new SFC Provincial Coordinator.  This Area Council will decide whether or not a follow-up meeting will still be scheduled after the “Musuan” meeting.
  2. Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan must categorically state to Bro. Gerard Quiaoit that governance of SFC in Misamis Oriental solely emanates from the new 5-man Area Council under Bro. Jun Waga.
  3. As Manila-based SFC coordinators, Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan are duty-bound to abide by the decision of the Misamis Oriental Area Council, uphold the CFC structure regardless of the personalities involved, and avoid making equivocal statements (like implying that CFC leaders are “hindi nagtutulungan”, that is, if they were quoted correctly by Bro. Gerard Quiaoit).
  4. The allegation that Bro. Boie Sescon instructed SFC leaders “…that if you serve in GK, you have to give up your (SFC) leadership” may be HEARSAY.  For the guidance of Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan, Bro. Boie Sescon advised the SFC leaders gathered some weeks back at the chapel of the Provincial Hospital complex in Cagayan de Oro City, that if they followed the group of Jun del Fierro, they were no longer members of the SFC.  As basis for such advisory, Bro. Boie Sescon quoted paragraph #5, page 2, of the CFC-IC’s “PASTORAL LETTER TO ALL CFC MEMBERS OF MISAMIS ORIENTAL”, dated August 4, 2009, thus: “…We ask that you stand your ground firmly with CFC.  Anyone who joins Jun del Fierro in his move to withdraw support from the IC is in effect declaring that he or she is voluntarily leaving Couples for Christ.”
  5. Finally to you, Bro. Leo Cadete (SFC Chptr 9, Cluster 3: Nazareno-Macabalan-Puntod-Lapasan-Gusa-Cugman), who blasted to the e-world the “points” in the “Meeting with Aldy Katigbak…”:  THERE IS NO SUCH THING OR ANIMAL AS SFC-IC Once more, all governance of SFC in Misamis Oriental must emanate from the CFC Area Council because SFC is only a ministry of CFC.

Praise God, status quo jud ta, continue with the service, plans and the leadership. Let us protect the SFC stand for unity. Well, I am also open for the 7th Point, where we can all possibly work hand-in-hand IN THE FUTURE, after all the dust and smokes of conflict settle down. But I hope and pray that Tito Boie and Tito Venuz will take heed to these points and respect the decision of SFC-IC. Huwag na po sana yung umiikot pa sa bawat chapter just to solicit support, twist the facts and sow disunity amongst the members. Anyway, I am proposing that during the SFC Praiseparty on October 24, let us include in our theme, UNITY, and possibly have a Prayer for Healing during the closing praisefest. Attend tayong lahat ha, October 24! Let us party and celebrate God’s Love! AMEN! GOD IS GOOD!

Thank you, ("_,)

Household meeting:  Service Meeting
Meeting with Aldy Katigbak on September 20, 2009
CMU, Musuan, Bukidnon
Present: Aldy Katigbak, Glenn Fernan, Venuz Cabaraban & Gerard Quiaoit

Points raised by Aldy:

1.      The SFC that I represent includes GK as a component.
2.      As an SFC IC na term na ‘yun, pwede ka pa rin gumawa ng GK work.
3.      This is where I’m coming from to be honest, huwag tayo mag palit baka lalong mawala yung SFC, yun lang ang pinoprotektahan ko more than anything, I have to be upfront, to be honest.  Now, for the sake of the SFCs, ok lang bas a inyo, heto nag usap tayo baka ang solution temporarily is let’s have Jig’s first continue as the PCC but working on the parameters (CFC IC parameters) until a certain period na ma stabilize na yong grupo.
4.      The dialogues that we have with Tito Melo and it has been consistent saying that hindi tanggal ang GK as an expression of the work with the poor in CFC, it’s part of the expanded work under Ancop.
5.      On what Tito Boie said that if you serve in GK, you have to give up your leadership – walang ganoon from national.
6.      We can have status quo first, kasi now’s the wrong time to make decisions that can affect the lives of people permanently kasi we are in the height of emotions.
7.      Next steps, the immediate, ‘yun nga, if we can have one last talk with Tito Boie… to protect the stand of SFC.  If we can push for a cooling down period na pwede mag status quo or mag work hand in hand kayong dalawa (Jigs and Tito Venuz) para makita ng CFC – mabuti pa yong SFC leaders natin nagtutulungan.
(Meeting is to be arranged with Tito Venuz with Glenn Fernan, Jigs, and Tito Bebot Pungtod present.  Tito Venuz to advise when meeting will take place).

BADZ DIMACUTAC LEAVES GK GROUP OF DEL FIERRO

VALE (Godspeed), Brother 'TITO' BADZ and 'TITA' BEBING DIMACUTAC.  VAYA CON DIOS!!!
[This time, he does not make it in the crucible of fire and becomes a "war casualty"...  "Collateral damage" in similar parlance. It is informed from a very reliable source that 'Tito' Badz Dimacutac, full-time CFC worker and Regional Coordinator of the KFC Ministry until the severance of ties by the JDF Group, submitted to JDF his "resignation" effective September 14, 2009.  Resignation from what, we cannot really tell because they in JDF Group are not CFC anymore and, from a multitude of indications, 'Tito' Badz has been part of that group. This technicality must be recognized kay daghan biya legal ramifications kanang irregular and illegal takeover sa del Fierro Group sa CFC Center and the attendant CFC operations considering that the same del Fierro group has severed ties with CFC that is government by the International Council (IC)For instance, unta ang CFC Manila must be involved in providing for the appropriate benefits and financial remunerations appurtenant to a CFC provincial employee, because the provincial operations are under the authority of the CFC Central Office. Busa, the best that 'Tito' Badz could perhaps do under the circumstances was quietly leave the GK office of del Fierro, manghipus, ug magpahibalo nga mohawa na siya... Kay wala na man pud intawon siyay katungod magcoordinate sa KFC activities sa Northern Mindanao - Surigao, Agusan, Bukidnon, MisOr, ug Camiguin.  Para sa pamilya ug kabuhayan ni 'Tito' Badz, maayo unta mahatagan siya ni JDF sa tanang benepisyo applicable for serving CFC for close to, or more  than, 20 years.  Anyway, they bragged that hefty amounts of provincial funds sent monthly to CFC Cenral as contribution to the Jubilee Mission Fund (JMF), would henceforth be suspended, and that these "savings" together with the expected regular cashflows from relatively hefty tithes and contributions would be used instead for their separatist GK-related  operations...'Tito' Badz, despite everything, you and 'Tita' Bebing are brethren in Christ forever.  You know where we are, Brother...]
Brother 'Tito' Badz, as you collect yourself from leaving what can be considered 'HOME' in the CFC Center, you must not forget that you have helping and loving hands here.  You will always be HOME in OUR CFC.  Indeed, those long, tender, loving, sweet-than-bitter years of CFC service through thick and thin, have come to be tested in the August Crucible of Fire (nothing august about it, though) that separated boys from men, kids from adults, the chaff from the grain.  You have your own truths, 'Tito' Badz, that have been molded over time.  Let them and other bits of supporting realities now make way for CHRIST, HIS CROSS AND HIS TRUTH ALONE, towards what we may just as well earnestly look forward to as your  "LAST, FINAL, SHINING MOMENT..."
Suggest don't let this pass.
In parting, may we in the original CFC, temporarily shaken but now standing firmly on our own moorings with the International Council, exhort you by these words from the Gospel according to St. Matthew (Mt 16:21-28):

16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,[b] the Son of the living God."  17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it.[e] 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[f] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[g] loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Jesus Predicts His Death

21From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"
23Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
24Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life[h] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (New International Version)

We are families in the Holy Spirit.  We are Couples for Christ, 'Tito' Badz, 'Tita' Bebing.  GOD BLESS US ALL!!!

THE PLOT OF MISAMIS ORIENTAL REVOLT AGAINST CFC THICKENS…

What happened in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oiental was a short-lived “revolt” lasting for only 8 days - from August 1 when the rebellious letter was transmitted to the CFC Office in Manila, up to August 8, 2009 when the 2nd dialogue failed and the rebels opted to move away from CFC.

THE MAIN CAST

So far, these are apparently the MAJOR PLAYERS AND PARTICIPANTS in the unfortunate revolt:
  1. The Misamis Oriental CFC Area Council under Bro. Jun del Fierro (rebels)
  2. The lower-level Misamis Oriental Sector Leaders - 9 less one who withdrew his signature and publicly expressed his apologies; was reinstated (rebels)
  3. CFC under the Int'l Council - CFC-IC - that “let go” of GK (subject of the revolt)
  4. Tony Meloto, GK Founder (he encouraged the revolt from the sidelines with his SMS)
  5. Nani Almanza of FFL-USA  / Frank Padilla SG of FFL (rebel sympathizers / coddlers)
  6. Mari Oquinena, GK Advocate and Leader (pro-rebels; please see his letter below)

THE PLOT…

At the height of the rebellion on August 2, 2009, defunct Area Council Director del Fierro read the SMS from Tony Meloto encouraging him of his rebellion and informing that other regions in Mindanao have started following his breakaway from CFC-IC.

Since such statements proved to be untrue, one may speculate that such could be meant to deceive and misrepresent facts, to create a critical mass for an upheaval against CFC…

THICKENS!

In the hereunder-quoted email, it is "interesting" to note that Mari Orquinena singled out ten (10) Philippine CFC provinces and cities as his recipients together with other private individuals. Since he represents GK, may not such communication suggest, among others, “converging” points for common, joint action by GK and FFL against CFC-IC in:
  1. Cotabato
  2. Davao
  3. Baguio
  4. Batangas
  5. Cavite
  6. Iligan
  7. Marinduque
  8. Laguna
  9. Samar
  10. Nueva Ecija?

It will help ALL loyal CFC followers to look further into this, because,
“FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED.”

Mari,

I actually find it interesting that there is no communication from you about the launching of www.gk1world.com, or any responses from the throngs of people concerned about www.gawadkalinga.org for a month or so after it was first reported, but you have the time to forward a quick message from from Frank Padilla about the CFC CDO split?  (NOTE:  This is the "Case Study in Black and White"  article published in the August, 2009 issue of  FFL's "Heads Up!" newsletter that has been cited supra - the Blog Author)

What I would prefer to hear from you, is the latest on the ground. What is the latest on the ground there? Has the GK Seattle Heros run village been started yet? Over here in the US, there really isn't much to tell people except for what we have already done, or give people literature that points to a defunct website that still shows up as being account suspended. I would like what is called in the Military, "leadership by example" and information that I can use to grow GK, not hearsay from someone who does not necessarily have what is good for GK at heart. I can't see how Frank's letter will do any good for GK, and for people that are loyal to CFC, it might actually alienate or cause additional frustration etc.

This is just my .2, I say things for real now a days, so I hope this doesn't take me off of your Christmas Card list.

FFL ENTERS THE FRAY IN CAGAYAN DE ORO / MISAMIS ORIENTAL

"Heads Up!”, a monthly publication of Frank Padilla's FFL that still appropriates the name “CFC-USA” has put out a one-page article supporting the revolt of Jun del Fierro from CFC-IC.
On page 8 of the paper's issue for August, 2009, Nani Almanza, National Director of FFL in the USA, says it is alright for del Fierro to move away from mainstream CFC-IC as “CFC-GK”; on the other hand, he continues to blame the mainstream CFC-IC’s for holding on to GK then, which was the main reason for Frank Padilla's separation and eventual formation of the FFL group

How is it now?  Consider these propostions:
- Jun del Fierro severed from the original CFC-IC because he opposed CFC’s “letting go” of GK
- Frank Padilla left and formed FFL when he felt that the original CFC-IC has veered away from its core mission and vision because of GK
- FFL, through Nani Almanza, its national Director for USA, argues that Jun del Fierro's appending of “GK” to CFC is just like “FFL” being added to CFC, and affims FFL's support of del Fierr's "CFC-GK”
- Thus, Frank Padilla, founder of FFL, -supports “CFC-GK” of Jun del Fierro

QUESTIONS:

FFL, which is CFC "in spirit" is a soulmate of del Fierro's "GK" (which is also CFC "in spirit")?
"What about the "SPIRIT' OF GK"?
Are Frank Padilla, Tony Meloto, and Jun del Fierro now a United Front, Brod Nani?

We will need to sort out the complications due to FFLs muddling. Meantime, I will leave it up to you to form your own judgment. Here is the full article:

Case Study in Black & White
In our move from control to servanthood,, corporate to Spirit--led, functional to relational, the Servant--General guides our discernment of how CFC Global mishandled CFC Cagayan de Oro’’s recent split from them..

August 16, 2009 -Our split from CFC Global formally happened on July 30, 2007, at the second restoration assembly. CFC Cagayan de Oro’s split from CFC Global happened also on July 30, with Jun del Fierro's letter to its erstwhile International Council or IC.  Both splits happened just a little over a month in the tenure of the newly elected/designated CFC Directors -- the 2 Joes. What is the lesson? They should watch out for every July 30 after their elections, and more importantly, watch out in appointing a Joe as Director.
Today starts a series of readings on the book of Judges. Today's reading is about the infidelities of the Israelites. They veered away and began serving the Baals. The Lord then allowed them to be defeated by their enemies. They relinquished "none of their evil practices or stubborn conduct." (Jgs 2:19).  In the same way, the IC persists in its serious wrongdoings, and persists in stubbornly insisting on their erroneous posture.
In their "A Pastoral Letter to All CFC Members of Misamis Oriental," we see the same patterns of the past two years.
(1) The IC speaks of acting "in the spirit of love and unity" while being the causes of spreading hate and fostering disunity.
(2) The IC proclaims itself as the "source of guidance for the CFC global family." It is God who is the source of guidance.  Have they proclaimed themselves as the new baals?
(3) The IC speaks of taking "this opportunity to present the real situation and to distill the truth" while dishing out continuing disinformation and withhold the real truth.
(4) The IC says that "CFC and GK are committed to pursue a collaborative and cooperative relationship" without disclosing the intense conflict that exists between the two camps, and without disclosing their real motives. Is it money?
(5) "In our life as a community of God, our pastoral formation has taught us that discord and conflicts can always be resolved through a loving relationship,"  This claim is so contrary to the malice and maligning that they inflicted on us, which in fact are what ultimately caused the split.
(6) The IC cites "that there is a timehonored culture and practice of dialogue," which they did not pursue in their conflict with us. They did not respond to calls to dialogue. The IC says "Jun del Fierro did not go through this process."
Neither did they with us. They are just reaping what they have sown.
(7) The IC says that Joe Yam and Joey A were scheduled to have a dialogue with Jun del Fierro but that he did not wait for them but instead announced his withdrawal of support from the IC. Even
if that is true, that is better than what happened to us, that we had the 4-day discussions (dialogue) and actually had an agreement but they reneged.
(8) "According to our Vatican statutes, membership in CFC is contingent on several elements, among which is obedience to the authority of the IC." This is not in the statutes. In fact, we had always said that blind obedience is proper to a cult. Again, has the IC made itself the new baal?
(9) The IC claims that "this overt act of declaration of nonsupport for the IC constitutes rebellion." In fact, it constitutes recognition of the wrongs done by the IC and thus acting in accordance with what they believe to be right. If ever this can be considered rebellion, it is rebellion against man for veering away from the ways of God. Thus it partakes of allegiance to God
(10) "CFC has been bestowed the gift of institutional leadership, the bedrock foundation of our community life." Here we see that they indeed have gone the way of the corporate, the institutional, the secular. Here we see that to them "gift," or charism, is institutional. It is no longer charismatic, a gift of the Spirit. Thus their bedrock foundation is of man and not of God.
(11) "We are all called upon to defend this foundation, to preserve it and to reject people who blatantly disrespect and disregard this important element of our life." Given that they have defined this foundation as institutional leadership, what they are actually calling on their members to do is to defend them in their positions of power and authority. In this, they are calling on members to reject their own brethren, rather than reaching out to them in love.
(12) "Anyone who joins Jun del Fierro in his move to withdraw support from the IC is in effect declaring that he or she is voluntarily leaving CFC." This of course is a total lie, exactly what they used against us. We did not leave CFC but only left the unenlightened IC. In the same way, Jun has declared that they are still CFC, that is, CFC-GK Misamis Oriental.  Just like us, we added to the name in order to distinguish and not to sow confusion. Jun in fact is the one who is obedient to the statutes, which say that "the social dimension of the work of CFC .... is GK (statute 11.3). The IC has violated the Vatican statutes without clearing the letting go of GK with the Vatican. Even their staunch supporter Archbishop Arguelles was dismayed with their move and disagreed with them. It is not Jun but rather the IC that has long ago left the authentic CFC.
(13) The IC asks its members "to aggressively protect our beloved community against those who actively seek to destroy our culture and tradition." This again is the call to arms that fosters hatred and encourages the anonymous bloggers and emailers that malign all those whom the IC as tagged as enemies.
(14) "We ask that we all move forward in Christ." Unfortunately, the IC has long been moving backward, away from Christ.

IMPLICATION
The loss of CFC Cagayan de Oro (CDO) from the CFC Global roster is a strategic debacle.  CDO is one of the oldest CFC communities in the Philippines.  It was the jumping off point to CFC’s first mission – Malaybalay, Bukidnon. CDO evangelized for CFC the whole of Northern Mindanao including Ozamis City that jots out to the Dipolog and Pagadian Cities of the Zamboangas; Iligan City that opens up to Marawi City and the Agusan provinces, and Malabalay that is the gateway to Cotabato and parts of Davao. Cagayan de Oro also competes with Davao City for being the most progressive city in Mindanao.  Ethnically, this city impacts on all Cebuano-speaking Filipinos comprising 60% of the entire country.

BACK TO BASICS IN CFC CULTURE

When the top CFC provincial leaders in Misamis Oriental unilaterally severed ties with the global CFC represented by the IC, on July 30, 2009:
  • -  neon signs and other symbols of CFC at the CFC Center in the close-to-a-hectare donated property at sitio Pasil, Bgy. Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City were quickly removed, CFC members loyal to the IC were not,  or otherwise coldly, entertained in compliance with a standing instruction to restrict their entry; yet, the collection of CFC members' tithes was continued by the rebel group using the traditional CFC system;
  • -  the ringleader who donated the land on which sits the two-storey Administrative Office of CFC -  as part of a mini-development complex (which includes an adjacent GK village, a Sibol School, and centers for medical outreach and livelihood training) -  threatened to take back his donation if CFC took possession of the said Office  that was built, among others, with raffle ticket funds raised by the general membership and through voluntary services;
  • -  like a ready-made answer looking for the appropriate question, the rebels have tenaciously clung to the CFC-GK acronym and provided ready-made shelter to the "orphaned" GK group of TM; also, anticipating a formal court battle on the irregular use of the CFC name, they have hinted at hitching on the splinter FFL group of Frank Padilla for the "CFC" term.  (Recall that in 1993, CFCFI was replaced by CFCGMFI.  Since then, CFCFI remained dormant but was not permanently archived as a dead organization.  In December, 2007, Frank Padilla and his rebel group filed fictitious documents with SEC in support of their petition - which was granted - to appropriate unto their FFL group the defunct CFCFI name.  CFCGMFI petitioned the Court of Appeals for review of the SEC decision, with the ruling expected within this year. )

CFC-IC in Misamis Oriental held on from near-demise following the blitzkrieg of the rebels.  With surgical precision, the new CFC-IC that was elected with overwhelming mandate by the Elders' Assembly last June, 2009, quickly removed the severing group from leadership positions and disseminated three (3) pastoral letters addressed to the global CFC community, the Philippine Mission, and the CFC members in Misamis Oriental, spelling out clearly the dialogues held with the rebels, and the events and circumstances that led to the latter’s decision to leave CFC-IC.

Now CFC-IC in Misamis Oriental holds a comfortable 60% of the membership, which continues to grow as others begin to realize the folly of the "rebellion" considering that they have made a covenant with God to follow the CFC way of Christian evangelization and not the GK way of nation-building.  The new area council and sector leaders are unfazed by the absence of the comforts of a CFC "administrative home" in the relatively "luxurious" Center.  As one senior member expresses in confidence:  "Up until now, we have zealously pursued our CLPs and reached out to help our less fortunate brothers amidst very scarce resources, all for the Lord.  We shall move on with our evangelization and work with the poor through ANCOP  unhampered by the absence of what may, in the end, turn out as 'undeserved luxury of a CFC building or real estate property.'"

And much, much more.  There is lesson on servant-leadership to be learned from the recalcitrance of leaders whose 'hubris', one observer writes, did them in, i.e., threatening to hold hostage the CFC-IC with their presumptuous hold on the membership.  There is also a serious need to review those times under the 'old regime'  when the general membership could have been overshadowed by an "elitist" CFC sub-culture promoted by the top leadership that preferred to give time to "other teachings" and views of the provincial director similar to the meetings of popular social clubs.

It is time to GO BACK TO THE BASICS OF BEING CFC.  GOD BE PRAISED!
