ABOUT BRO. GERARD QUIAOIT AND SFC-MISAMIS ORIENTAL (COMMENTS RE HIS MEETING IN MUSUAN, BUKIDON ON SEPT. 20, 2009)

(The following comments are meant to put in proper perspective the “meeting”  -  held among Manila-based coordinators for SFC, in the persons of Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan, Bro. Venus Cabaraban, new Provincial Coordinator for SFC in Misamis Oriental, and Bro. Gerard Quaioit whom Bro. Venus Cabaraban replaced  -  in Musuan, Bukidnon, last September 20, 2009.  The source document for these comments is given below.)
--------------------------------------------
  1.  A new 5-man Area Council under Bro. Jun Waga, governs CFC in Misamis Oriental and has already installed Bro. Venus Cabaraban as the new SFC Provincial Coordinator.  This Area Council will decide whether or not a follow-up meeting will still be scheduled after the “Musuan” meeting.
  2. Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan must categorically state to Bro. Gerard Quiaoit that governance of SFC in Misamis Oriental solely emanates from the new 5-man Area Council under Bro. Jun Waga.
  3. As Manila-based SFC coordinators, Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan are duty-bound to abide by the decision of the Misamis Oriental Area Council, uphold the CFC structure regardless of the personalities involved, and avoid making equivocal statements (like implying that CFC leaders are “hindi nagtutulungan”, that is, if they were quoted correctly by Bro. Gerard Quiaoit).
  4. The allegation that Bro. Boie Sescon instructed SFC leaders “…that if you serve in GK, you have to give up your (SFC) leadership” may be HEARSAY.  For the guidance of Bros. Aldy Katigbak and Glenn Fernan, Bro. Boie Sescon advised the SFC leaders gathered some weeks back at the chapel of the Provincial Hospital complex in Cagayan de Oro City, that if they followed the group of Jun del Fierro, they were no longer members of the SFC.  As basis for such advisory, Bro. Boie Sescon quoted paragraph #5, page 2, of the CFC-IC’s “PASTORAL LETTER TO ALL CFC MEMBERS OF MISAMIS ORIENTAL”, dated August 4, 2009, thus: “…We ask that you stand your ground firmly with CFC.  Anyone who joins Jun del Fierro in his move to withdraw support from the IC is in effect declaring that he or she is voluntarily leaving Couples for Christ.”
  5. Finally to you, Bro. Leo Cadete (SFC Chptr 9, Cluster 3: Nazareno-Macabalan-Puntod-Lapasan-Gusa-Cugman), who blasted to the e-world the “points” in the “Meeting with Aldy Katigbak…”:  THERE IS NO SUCH THING OR ANIMAL AS SFC-IC Once more, all governance of SFC in Misamis Oriental must emanate from the CFC Area Council because SFC is only a ministry of CFC.

Praise God, status quo jud ta, continue with the service, plans and the leadership. Let us protect the SFC stand for unity. Well, I am also open for the 7th Point, where we can all possibly work hand-in-hand IN THE FUTURE, after all the dust and smokes of conflict settle down. But I hope and pray that Tito Boie and Tito Venuz will take heed to these points and respect the decision of SFC-IC. Huwag na po sana yung umiikot pa sa bawat chapter just to solicit support, twist the facts and sow disunity amongst the members. Anyway, I am proposing that during the SFC Praiseparty on October 24, let us include in our theme, UNITY, and possibly have a Prayer for Healing during the closing praisefest. Attend tayong lahat ha, October 24! Let us party and celebrate God’s Love! AMEN! GOD IS GOOD!

Thank you, ("_,)

(The following “account” of the meeting was attached to Leo Cadete’s mail)

September 23, 2009
Household meeting:  Service Meeting
Meeting with Aldy Katigbak on September 20, 2009
CMU, Musuan, Bukidnon
Present: Aldy Katigbak, Glenn Fernan, Venuz Cabaraban & Gerard Quiaoit

Points raised by Aldy:

1.      The SFC that I represent includes GK as a component.
2.      As an SFC IC na term na ‘yun, pwede ka pa rin gumawa ng GK work.
3.      This is where I’m coming from to be honest, huwag tayo mag palit baka lalong mawala yung SFC, yun lang ang pinoprotektahan ko more than anything, I have to be upfront, to be honest.  Now, for the sake of the SFCs, ok lang bas a inyo, heto nag usap tayo baka ang solution temporarily is let’s have Jig’s first continue as the PCC but working on the parameters (CFC IC parameters) until a certain period na ma stabilize na yong grupo.
4.      The dialogues that we have with Tito Melo and it has been consistent saying that hindi tanggal ang GK as an expression of the work with the poor in CFC, it’s part of the expanded work under Ancop.
5.      On what Tito Boie said that if you serve in GK, you have to give up your leadership – walang ganoon from national.
6.      We can have status quo first, kasi now’s the wrong time to make decisions that can affect the lives of people permanently kasi we are in the height of emotions.
7.      Next steps, the immediate, ‘yun nga, if we can have one last talk with Tito Boie… to protect the stand of SFC.  If we can push for a cooling down period na pwede mag status quo or mag work hand in hand kayong dalawa (Jigs and Tito Venuz) para makita ng CFC – mabuti pa yong SFC leaders natin nagtutulungan.
(Meeting is to be arranged with Tito Venuz with Glenn Fernan, Jigs, and Tito Bebot Pungtod present.  Tito Venuz to advise when meeting will take place).

UNQUOTE

MESSRS KATIGBAK AND FERNAN:

1. FIRST, there is no problem in SFC if the leader decides to stick with CFC. Kaya, READ AND UNDERSTAND THE LETTER OF SEVERANCE OF DEL FIERRO AND HIS C0HORTS dated July 30, 2009.

2. If Brother Gerard decides to follow those who have severed ties, then HE CANNOT UNITE WITH CFC; INSTEAD, HE ALSO SEVERS FROM IT. The opposite of this is just as well, AND IS MOST WELCOME BY ALL OF US WHO HAVE REMAINED LOYAL TO CFC-IC.

3. Do not muddle the issue with the GK work for the poor. CFC has never abandoned the poor and continues to do so under the ANCOP program. We have other works that you yourself will want to know, e.g., the FEED MY SHEEP PROGRAM.

4. CFC brethren are not discouraged from volunteering in GK provided their activity is coordinated within the ambit of CFC administrative structure.

5. We in CFC are aware of the fact that we have not abandoned GK's work with the poor. What was given up was the governance system; that is why, it was only logical that ANCOP had to be revived. In the same vein, we doubt any suggestion that Brother Boie Sescon, CFC Regional Head for Northeastern Mindanao could readily dismiss SFC leaders working with GK.

6. About the comment of Brother Boie requiring SFC leaders to leave, this qualified statement may be more apropriate: "...if you serve in GK group of Jun del Fierro, you have to give up your leadership."

7. Haaayyy salamat, nakapag-release din ng tension. Shalom!

It is difficult with singles in SFC, we know that.

Very likely, theirs would be a stage in life when one just have to hang on to a few loyal friends he has found and bonded with, especially in and through Jesus Christ in CFC, and most especially as he or she firms up a choice for a life-time partner.

So being in SFC also has to do also with loyalty to special friends and personalities... OK lang, Igsoon Kong Mahal.

Just try to hang on also to TRUTH, and if it would come to clinging to IT at the expense of those personalities, then we pray you will know what to do. GOD BLESS, YOU, PALANGGA.

the reason why there are many CFC members left the community is because of the attitude/character of the leaders. You are not good leaders! Now, we are also leaving this community. Hipocrites! You've done damaged to our chapter! We believe that bro. leo cadete is doing his best to fight for unity...we are here to support him!

Anonymous said...

The reason why many members have stayed with CFC is because their top leaders - the DEFUNCT AND DISMISSED COUNCIL MEMBERS AND SECTOR HEADS - WERE THEMSELVES HYPOCRITES!

They glossed over their joint letter of severance, which was THE CAUSE for their dismissal, and made it appear that they were unceremoniously bawled out of CFC.

They even said that the whole membership of CFC in Misamis Oriental was one with them in their removal of allegiance from CFC-IC. WHAT THE GALL!.

THERE ARE CFC LEADERS WHO WERE SO STUNNED BY THOSE LEADERS' "HYPOCRISY" THAT THEY WERE NUMBED; "PARALYZED", they could not believe the blitzkrieg of a coup d'etat unfold before them for flimsy reasons so that they decided to stay in the neutral corner, leaving the members to fend for themselves and the CFC structure in disarray - at least initially.

We are fighting the EVIL ONE here.

This is not about Brother Cadete nor about Brother Quiaoit.

This is simply about TRUTH.

It may yet be far for a number of us, but on the day of reckoning, the truth will out as the SHEEP are segregated from the GOATS.

I recall CFC leaders were required to have a “deep bench” of leaders, meaning, like in a basketball game, the CFC leadership would have sets of players and reserves in the: ‘1st Five’ the ‘2nd Five’ or even a 3rd Five”. This ensured that the CFC structure would hold if shaken by such forces as the one hurled by the former top leaders of Misamis Oriental headed by Jun del Fierro.

I wonder if this practice was also emphasized among the SFC. I believe it was not, inasmuch as the defunct CFC Council under Brother Jun conducted the CFC affairs “oido”-style, as it found the teachings on leadership provided by the CFC Central Office to be “lousy”. Additionally, Brother Jun del Fierro’s allowed Jigs, his son-in-law, to lead a parallel SFC organization that “reported”, or was supposed to report, to the defunct Council only, as Jigs did not connect the SFC with CFC leaders on the ground – at the sector, cluster, chapter, or unit levels.

Siguro, Brother Venuz Cabaraban will need to look, too.

Meantime, perhaps it will certainly help if the new CFC Provincial Area Council in Misamis Oriental issues a final, formal policy statement regarding the SFC leadership in the province for the guidance of the SFC members. Thereafter, Bro. Melo Villaroman may be also invited to help clarify the lines of authority in the Province for the smooth and efficient operation of the Family Ministries.

THE TRUTH!? do you even know what that means anymore? my titos and titas, such hateful words here in this blogsite. i was shocked that you guys in the "council" still consider what you do as "the truth". pls understand also the reasons why tito jun severed ties with the IC. if i may be blunt, it is because of people like you. we are taught in the community to put others before ourselves and yet here, our leaders (you) are so full of yourselves! you think yourselves in the IC as the only ones who are going to be saved! i pity the fool who follows you.
and re: bro leo, he does not mean any harm to you. yes, he may be a bit hyperactive but he means well. all he wants is for sfc's to unite. what's wrong with that?

Guys, we have been taught in the ways of Roman Catholic Christians... so please, consider the Christian Gospels...

may i suggest that we all reflect on last Sundays's Gospel when Jesus said that "For whoever is not against us is for us."

my understanding tells me that we are all for Christ, and thus, we are for each other...but i could be wrong, as i have been many times.

but i am quite sure that when hatred and pride has died down and if we are to reflect on the Gospel on the Good Shephed, we will realize that most of what we are doing now contradicts the Gospel.

may each of us receive, with true hearts, the Peace that Jesus has so willingly offered us....

just an observation:

When i first joined YFC when it was still YA (Young Adults), i really admired the Servant-Leadership that made the ORGANIZATION grow...and the contributions CFC, with its ministries, have provided to the Church of Christ.

Leaders were indeed SERVANTS then, and were there for everyone, understanding individual differences...

but the way i see how this conflict has escalated, i could hardly see how we are concerned with our members... do we even realize the crisis we put them in? do we even consider the people who we have CONVINCED to serve God thru our ORGANIZATION?

How could we fight among ourserlves, when most (if not all) of us are of the same Religion: Roman Catholic... when we are all Christians... when we all CLAIM to be doing God's work?... if we are all for Christ, then how could we be against each other?

Is unity the answer? or do we have to establish as many organizations so we can all focus on serving God in our various charisms?... the answers are within each one of us... and whatever the choice, it must be Christian...

AS AN OUTSIDER LOOKING IN, I THINK COUPLES FOR CHRIST (CFC) WAS SAVED FROM ITSELF BEING UNDER THE CLUTCHES OF THE MALE-DOMINATED CLIQUE OF DEL FIERRO AND HIS ILK, WHO ACTED THEIR POLITICS MORE THAN PRACTICING AUTHENTIC CHRISTIAN LIVES, TO THE ASININE SATISFACTION OF THEIR BOOT-LICKING SECTOR HEADS.

THOSE SO-CALLED "SINGLES" (Unmarried) FOR CHRIST MUST BEWARE AND AVOID SIMILAR PITFALLS.

OR ELSE, WELCOME TO HELL!

Relax, Tander, Brow. Cool ka lang

I think what was said here is that we cannot be one because the top leaders “severed” on July 30, 2009, using the members “in vain” – gi-apil nila ang mga miyembro sa ilang pag-pirma, bisan bakak (untrue) kini kay dili man kadto tinuod. Gets? (Please read 2-page joint letter of Bro. Jun del Fierro declaring immediate severance of ties from CFC-IC, the one-page "declaration of independence" by the del Fierro group dated August 2, 2009, and two-page Pastoral Letter from the CFC-IC dated August 4, 2009 removing JDF and signatories from CFC leadership.).

When members of the CFC-IC came to Cagayan de Oro for a dialogue, the rebel-top leaders made demands instead, which CFC-IC could not give, let alone the fact that making demands is not part of the culture of dialogue in CFC. As a result thereof, the rebel-top leaders decided to leave CFC (Please read Pastoral Letter from the CFC-IC dated August 12, 2009).

And what may be the truth of SFC? Part of that truth is that Jigs, the Provincial Leader, did not “meld into” or “blend with” the CFC structure in Misamis Oriental, from Sector level down; instead, an SFC parallel structure was allowed by our defunct provincial area director (his father). But the truth also is that SFC is a ministry of CFC and outside of CFC, SFC members have no legal personality as such.

We cannot be a member and non-member at the same time; or we cannot have our cake and eat it, too. But based on our Covenant, we are members of the COUPLES FOR CHRIST community.

About Brother Leo, that could have been a clerical error when he mentioned “SFC-IC”. Just be clear what is it you are uniting, Brod Leo. Remember, to sever means to cut off with no more connection, which is what the group of JDF did. Since you want connectedness or unity, how do you specifically propose to do this?

Brother Leo, Brothers in SFC, just an insight: When our CFC split in the Philippines (between FP and the followers of TM and GK), most of the brethren in the US moved for Unity and had a signature campaign and prayer-sessions towards that end. They failed and were split too, when the home based-CFC decided to part ways.

Please consider the facts and the current situation and make a serious analysis how to reconcile the stand of the 7-Man CFC-IC (that was elected by the global elders’ assembly of CFC) and 13-top separatists under JDF. If it is OK, present your proposed solution to the Area Council of Misamis Oriental for their consideration. Otherwise, as I see it, it is already kaput and passé.

Friends, Brothers and Sisters:

CFC Misamis Oriental has already a new Provincial Area Council which decides on all matters pertinent to CFC in Misamis Oriental. This is the perspective I have wanted to focus on in this post.

Yes, UNITY!

Let us pray for unity of all covenant-carrying members of CFC and its family ministries, under the auspices of the new Provincial Area Council.

If by emphasizing the existence of this new structure (which now waves high the banner of CFC that fell on July 30, 2009) I have inadvertently hurt a brother's or a sister's feelings, I am very sorry. But then, this is a particular posture - that of standing up for CFC-IC - that I cannot be neutral about.

You are all welcome to make comments here but let's do them in a Christian way, the way of charity as we have been taught.

May peace be in all our hearts.

The above comments have indeed placed into proper perspective (in my opinion, that is) the difficulty of how unity can be achieved among "personalities" when an act of severance has already been made... i guess that proves that logic, wisdom, and a calm personality could indeed effect people to listen to reason :-)

Moreover, i am sure that not many members and leaders have signed acts of severance, which basically implies that, not having severed ties, they are still members.

CFC (along with its ministries), as a lay community, has indeed helped develop in us the Holy Spirit bestowed upon us by right of the Sacrament of Baptism, which is further strengthened by the Sacrament of Confirmation.

By the Sacrament of the Eucharist, we have been in union with God, and hence, with our fellow Christians...

The reason why i delve on the Sacraments is because many of us, when in conflict, tend to forget that there is one Sacrament which allow us to reunite with God everytime we err, and that is the Sacrament of Penance.

Christians as we are we, we have looked with compassion on our fellow Christians who have lost their ways - we have converted, thru our community, even the worst of criminals.

For years CFC has never tired to reach out even to the least fortunate and even to those who seemed to have lost hope in God...

Thus i ask: should we tire in reaching out to our fellow Christians who has viewed things differently?

As CFC, our covenant is to Love... and as Christians, our Commandment is to Love... and loving demands forgiveness, as we are forgiven...

I shall remain having faith, for the good of the sheep, that reconciliation can be achieved among the shepherds; even if it is faith beyond hope. To note, even the Orthodox and the Roman Catholics continue to hold dialogues, whith the Orthodox conceding as of October 2008 that the Church in Rome is indeed of primary importance based on tradition... :-)

just as I commit SIN ( I will go to the COnfession Box but I Dont have DEMANDS wd all love & sencerity)Surely God will embrace me wholeheartedly.
CFC IC is open for reconciliation so hopefully those who sever ties will be humble enough & meet half way.
its easier said than done! So its a process Kay LALOM jud ni.
In time lets all pray for this.

“FAITH BEYOND HOPE”
...of reconciliation among shepherds for the good of the sheep.

Brother Linnito:

I praise God for your very profound, thoughtful, and helpful insights, from which I took cathwords for the title of this piece.

I read somewhere that “faith that can move mountains” is no ordinary faith. So I tried to search for some explanation that fits my specific desire now.

I share the following from the internet: (http://www.seekgod.org/message/mountainfaith.html):

“For too long now we have been looking at problems that are bigger than us as mountains, and they appear as mountains if you focus on them. When you focus on the problem God looks small, when you focus on God the problem looks small. The truth is your problem is a speck of dust, and maybe even an illusion, but Jesus and His Kingdom are the Mountain. God takes us into the "Faith Zone" by allowing us to face situations that are bigger than us so that we can see demonstrations of His love, by His power.”

I agree with you, Brod. From a human perspective, it is difficult to achieve unity with and among personalities whose act of severance has been completed. So, may we all be moved by FAITH that we be one CFC again.

I you will allow me, I want to have a peek of the subject "sheep and shepherds".

In the case of the split of CFC before (that involved F Padilla), I remember one Bishop from Mindanao commenting on the crisis as a case of
“The scandal of the flock due to the silence of their shepherds”,
referring to some bishops not making a stand on the issues about CFC,

About our current case in Misamis Oriental when the top leaders severed ties from the CFC-IC, may it be a case of
“The scandal of the shepherds due to the silence of the lambs?”

Hi!

This blog may just as well counsel caution about presumptuousness.

For instance, in a number of times, there is an agitated commenter here who is so sure who I am that he names and viciously attacks that person he presumes I am.

I pity this brother and I pray for the person he has hurt.

Meantime, I leave as is this piteous brother’s comments, and when they disappear, you will agree that low blows based on presumptive and untruthful views are not that up-building at all.

I am not yet sure I should strike out comments by anonymous about those “unspeakable” statements, yes horrible and revolting, indeed, that were hurled on August 2 during the declaration of independence from CFC-IC by the group of Bro Jun del Fierro, the details about the ouster of Brother Archie Velasco by Bro. Jun et al some four years earlier, and the stigma or guilt associated with a “dishonest grand prize” for raffle tickets sold to raise funds for the CFC Center.

Somehow, these issues are connected to the conflict, so I felt they needed to be verbalized and thus "shame the Devil".

But then, as a people of God, we also learned that we do not need to know the details of one’s sin.

If a brother (or sister) comes and sincerely confesses to a sinful act he has committed, we may not have to ask him about the details, but accept his contrite heart, and ask God that his act of contrition will lead to his forgiveness and renewal, or help him rectify, if such was needed.

Finally, one anonymous blogger correctly opined that no amount of explanation or argumentation will ever convince one who has determinedly taken the opposite site of an issue to be swayed to the other side.

That is why, the best option we must all have in the face of the split in our CFC community in Miamis Oriental is to PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER.

As a priest would say, if the other side’s work is not for God, then it will die a natural death.

Salamat.

MCDO, be strong enough to show yourself if you have faith in God and if you have face to show. Don't worry we won't stoned you to death but at least we know how true and sincere you are on your sympathy to CFC-IC. If not, your just plainly making confusion and being instrument by the devil to create division among your bros and sis in Christ. Its not up to us to judge you but the Father, the son and the Holy spirit in Heaven. If you have fear in God, then stop this animousity and stand up on the truth. CFC IC/CFC GK and CFC FFL are just doors for everyone to serve Christ. So be it if ever you have different ways of Service as long as we are in line with the Roman Catholic Church and with Christ. As a Christ Servant, Religious, Priest, and a brother, its not yet too late for all of us to reconcile. Remember Christ died for all of us and not only For a particular membership, even to non-christian. So MCDO, repent and be sober. God is Good all the time. God Bless.
